Dr. Kristina Szabo, DVM

Primary Veterinarian & Practice Owner

I am very excited to be opening the Star Veterinary Hospital. As an independent owner, I am committed to providing the best medicine with the warmth of a family-run establishment. I live in the community and thoroughly enjoy the pets and people that I run into every day.

A little bit more about myself: I graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1999 and have worked as an associate in general practice and emergency medicine throughout all my career. I have two special needs rescue cats that are wonderful. Leo, a beautiful Bengal kitty, and Star, a small Siamese. Yes! I did name the clinic after her. (The story of the hospital name is on the Our Practice page.) Both cats have amazing talents and have taught me a lot.

I love to play sports in my spare time, especially tennis in the summer and skiing when the snow flies. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your little ones!

Dr. Mayra Gonzalez

Associate Vet

Dr. Gonzalez earned her veterinary degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in 2012, followed by advanced training in small animal medicine and surgery. She spent five years operating her own veterinary clinic in Mexico City, with a special focus on feline medicine and stress-free care.

After moving to Toronto in 2021, Dr. Gonzalez continued her career as an associate veterinarian. She is passionate about veterinary dentistry and hopes to pursue further specialization in the field in the future. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care and creating a comfortable experience for pets and their families.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading and watching films, staying active, and spending time with her beloved pets.

Dr. Kammy Punniamoorthy

Locum Vet

I graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2016 and spent my days diagnosing mysteries, happily geeking out over surgical procedures, and mastering the fine art of bribing reluctant patients. You can find me at Star Veterinary Hospital once a week on Tuesdays!

At home, I report to two very demanding supervisors: Mocha, my striped mastermind of a tabby, and Bandit, a tuxedo cat living a life of petty domestic crime. My medical degree carries zero authority when dinner is five minutes late.

When I’m not in scrubs, I’m usually plotting my next trip or hunting down the best food in the city. Looking forward to meeting you and your four-legged troublemakers!

Dr. Karen MacMillan

Locum Vet

My passion for veterinary medicine began when I was just five years old. After a childhood experience involving my beloved cat, Frisky, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping animals.

I earned an Honours degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph before completing my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2002. Early in my career, I contributed to veterinary research with the publication of my first journal article, Neurologic Complications Following Treatment of Canine Hypoadrenocorticism.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in veterinary clinics across Toronto, caring for dogs and cats and building meaningful relationships with their families. I believe veterinary medicine is about more than treating illness. It’s about building trust, providing compassionate care, and helping pets live long, healthy, and happy lives.

I’m excited to be joining the team at Star Veterinary Hospital and returning to the King West neighbourhood. I look forward to meeting the wonderful pets and families in our community and providing personalized, high-quality care for every patient I see.

When I’m not at the clinic, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my teenage son and our three beloved cats.

Kim

Practice Manager

Hi, I’m Kim, Star Veterinary Hospital’s part time office wizard!

When not busy winning over the hearts of donkeys at Primrose Donkey Sanctuary, Kim can be found ruling a tiny kingdom at home—consisting of two feisty chihuahuas who may or may not believe they run the world. A devoted animal lover and sanctuary volunteer, Kim thrives in the company of long-eared, four-legged friends, whether they bray, bark or meow!

Whether knee-deep in hay at the sanctuary or catering to the royal demands of her pint-sized pups, Kim embraces life with a heart full of compassion and a spirit as free as a donkey in an open pasture.

Sebastian

Veterinarian Technician Lead

For Sebastian, animal care is more than a profession—it is a lifelong calling rooted in over 10 years of hands-on experience in the veterinary field. Originally from the vibrant city of Medellín, Colombia, Sebastian spent five years honing his skills in high-paced emergency hospitals, developing a steady hand and a calm demeanor in critical situations. Now calling Canada home, he is actively pursuing his Canadian veterinary licence to continue his journey in medicine. When he isn’t supporting our team and your pets, Sebastian can be found exploring the Canadian wilderness or relaxing at home with his own pack: two beautiful cats Cyrus and Logan and a tiny, adventurous Beagle Adam.

Gabby

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

Hi, my name is Gabby and I recently graduated as a veterinary technician.

I’m excited to begin my career in veterinary medicine. I’ve always enjoyed pets and to be around them.

I’m thrilled to provide excellent care and a positive experience for both pets and owners.

A little more about me is that I love reading books, listening to music, hanging out with my friends and exploring the world. I’m also a very friendly person and very talkative. Looking forward to seeing you and your pet at SVH!

Joy

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

🐾 Meet Joy & Jinx 🐾
Joy is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) who brings three years of hands-on experience working in veterinary hospitals and, most importantly, a genuine passion for helping animals feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.

With her calm nature, compassion, and growing knowledge, Joy loves being part of the veterinary team and making a difference in the lives of both pets and their families.

When Joy isn’t at the hospital, you’ll often find her doing something completely different—painting! 🎨 Art is her favourite way to relax, unwind, and let her creativity shine.

And then there’s Jinx 🖤🐱—Joy’s beautiful feline companion and, undoubtedly, one of her favourite subjects to come home to. Jinx has a special place in Joy’s heart and is always ready to supervise her next masterpiece!

We’re so happy to have Joy as part of the team and can’t wait for you and your pets to get to know her! 🐾

Client Care Specialist Team Lead

Hi, I’m Melanie. I am a passionate and dedicated veterinary assistant with over 5 years experience in the animal industry and proud member of the Star team.

With a heart for all creatures, great and small, I have a deep understanding of animal behavior and a gentle touch when handling even the most skittish patients. I love the rewarding feeling of helping pets and their owners through both happy and challenging times. I am committed to creating a positive and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our door.

Outside of work, I am a proud pet owner. Sharing my home with 2 cats, and a beloved dog who keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bronwyn

Client Care Specialist

Hi, I’m Bronwyn. I have always had a deep love of caring for animals and humans alike! I want every person and animal that interacts with me to leave feeling happy and reassured. I have a tendency to take on the difficult rescue cases, and give them the love they deserve. I am a fur-mom to 2 senior cats, named Tig and Trip, and a rambunctious dog, named Monty! I spend most of off-time cuddling and playing with them. I am very proud to be a part of such a kind and dedicated team here at star. I’m so thankful to have the most amazing clients and patients. Stop by and say Hi anytime, I love to chat and share some snacks with four legged family members!

Kennel Assistant

Hi, I’m Shawn! I am a dedicated and compassionate part-time Kennel Assistant with a passion for helping both pets and their owners feel welcome and comfortable. My admiration for animals has inspired me to consider a career as a veterinarian, and I’m excited to be gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my own pets, playing video games, or biking. I also have a loyal dog of my own who keeps me entertained and livens up my day. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family members at the clinic!

Anjali

Kennel Assistant

I’ve always had so much love and respect for all kinds of animals, and absolutely adore caring for the patients at Star. I’m working my way towards a career as a wildlife veterinarian, and I plan to continue doing everything I can to help the animals I encounter feel safe, healthy, and loved. In my free time I enjoy painting, birdwatching, rock climbing, and playing with my two cats, Maple and Gunk.

Luke

Animal Care Attendant

Hi, I’m Luke. I found my way into veterinary medicine while working at a humane society in Collingwood, Ontario. I loved helping stray cats recover, get healthy, and eventually find their forever homes.

I’ve always had an interest in a wide variety of animals, especially cats and reptiles, and have cared for quite a few over the years. These days, I have two cats of my own who keep me busy at home.

At Star Veterinary Hospital, I really enjoy being part of a team that cares so much about the animals we see everyday. Outside of work, I spend my time training mixed martial arts or with my loved ones.
